Sycamore
Previous NextFrom the base, the piece extends elegantly upwards by multiple curved flutes, each intricately cut with an abstract organic pattern that mimics the structure of a sycamore leaf. The effect is a mesmerising array of shadows that transform with the angle of the sun or the rotation of the sculpture.
A kinetic design which stands 1.75m high, Sycamore is also a seat, providing somewhere to rest and immerse oneself in the landscape. Playfully rotating on an axis like a falling Sycamore seed through the wind, the movement highlights the contrasting polished and textured surfaces of the piece.
Over the years I’ve reimagined everything from bugs and beetles to conkers and seeds in my jewellery designs – so to scale something up
to nearly 6ft has been eye-opening! David has done a wonderful job of retaining all the precious intricacies in the finished piece, with the added complexity of making the piece rotate.
I can’t wait to sit on
it and have a spin!
